The Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Showdown With Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Houston Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their first Fall Classic after 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Trailing three runs to one, Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh, propelling the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, the team that is the current crown, in the forthcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for our team, the city, our country," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "What an amazing experience."

The veteran has now slugged twenty-three October home runs, placing him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another player in the world that I'd prefer in that situation except for George Springer with his post-season brilliance," said Schneider.

The Mariners, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's going to sting" in the wake of his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their performance in the campaign.

"This is a unique group. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of the series," he added.

Toronto's team secured the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
