Manchester United Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

• Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
• She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
