Ex- Doctor Charged with Sexual Assault Allegations Involving Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors have announced that a former physician has been charged with carrying out sexual assaults against 38 victims who were patients.

The Grave Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous acts of sexual assault – including some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

A senior prosecutor stated, “Legal teams have worked at length to support a thorough and intricate investigation, meticulously examining the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

The Investigation

The charges follow what police called a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

Spencer will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

Prosecutors said the 45 charges include:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.

Authorities have asked individuals with information to contact the relevant police force.
