Disturbing Find: Remains of Missing Mother and Child Located in Freezers in the Alpine Nation

The remains of a 34-year-old woman and her young daughter, 10 have been found inside freezing appliances in an flat in western Austria.

The deceased, a Syrian woman and her daughter, who had been unaccounted for for several months, were detected on Friday. The cooling units were concealed behind a drywall partition in the apartment, situated in the city of Innsbruck.

Two men, a Austrian man, 55 and his 53-year-old brother, were taken into custody in June. The 55-year-old, a work associate of the female victim, informed law enforcement last week that there had been an accident—but rejected homicide.

Speaking to reporters previously, a spokesman for the legal authorities announced the brothers were being detained on "high likelihood of intentional killing".

The identities of those implicated have not been released by authorities, in compliance with local legislation.

The family's disappearance was initially flagged by the cousin of the mother, who lives in Germany, on the 25th of July last year.

Authorities stated the male associate informed them at the time she had embarked on an extended trip with her child to travel to her relatives in the nation of Turkey.

Her bank card was then discovered to be utilized in foreign locations several times.

But when officers entered the mother's apartment, her mobile phone was discovered.

An individual also claimed hearing a disturbing sound in the apartment, and screams of "mum" on the date the two were presumed to have gone missing.

An expanded police investigation was started, with investigators finding various messages originating from the woman's phone—including a resignation letter to her employer and texts to the male colleague.

Law enforcement stated a amount in the thousands was also sent to the individual.

Katja Tersch stated to media representatives on recently that a storage facility had been leased before the victims' disappearance and a freezer had been installed within.

The brothers removed the appliance from the storage space on the day the woman and her child disappeared, Tersch revealed. And a shortly afterward, they purchased another freezer.

Investigators say they think this points to the fatalities were planned in advance.

"The cause of death could not be determined due to the state of decomposition of the victims," the official commented.

The prosecutor's spokesman—of the public prosecutor's office—stated the exact sequence of events is still unclear, but the victims were expertly concealed and went unnoticed during a previous house search.

Although the brothers were detained in June, it was only on November 12 that the elder brother confessed to an event and to hiding the bodies. He denies any intent to kill, authorities said.

Meanwhile, his brother confessed to a concealment but denied awareness of a homicide.

The brothers are currently in pre-trial detention in prisons in separate locations, situated at a distance.

Through a combined announcement, Austria's Minister for Women and Justice Minister declared the "alleged double murder... symbolizes the sudden and brutal end of two human lives and exposes a cruel system".

"Female individuals are falling victim to homicide due to the sole reason that they are women and girls," they went on to say.

"Femicides are a strongly established and issue affecting all of society that we must fight resolutely."
